Become a Volunteer at Norway Chess 2026

Would you like to be part of one of the world’s leading chess tournaments and experience an international sporting event from the inside? We’d love to have you join us!

Norway Chess 2026 will take place from 25 May to 5 June at Deichman Bjørvika in Oslo, and we are now looking for enthusiastic volunteers who want to help create a world-class experience — for players, spectators, and partners alike. The tournament runs for nearly two weeks, with high activity and a wide variety of tasks every day.

variety of tasks every day.

Volunteer Roles

We are looking for engaged and service-minded volunteers for several exciting roles, including:

Security – help create a safe and welcoming atmosphere, and support smooth flow and order in the venue

Hospitality & Guest Services – welcome players, partners, media and spectators, answer questions, and help ensure a positive experience for everyone

Tickets & Sales – assist with ticket sales and merchandise, and provide friendly customer service

Drivers – contribute to a safe and pleasant experience by providing reliable transportation for players and guests between hotels, the venue and other locations. This role is well suited for someone who is service-oriented, communicates well, and holds a valid driver’s license.

Who Can Volunteer?

No prior chess knowledge is required — what matters most is that you are positive, reliable, and enjoy contributing as part of a team. We also appreciate that you are organized and comfortable taking responsibility. It is a plus if you live in Oslo or the surrounding area.

As a volunteer, you will gain valuable experience, meet new people, and have the opportunity to be part of an internationally recognized sporting event.

To ensure good continuity and strong collaboration throughout the tournament, we preferably look for volunteers who are able to participate for as much of the tournament period as possible.

Age requirement: You must be at least 18 years old to volunteer during the tournament.

Practical Information

Location: Deichman Bjørvika, Oslo

Availability: On your volunteer days, shifts will normally run from approximately 4:00 PM until the end of the round (usually around 9:30–10:00 PM), depending on role and how the games develop. For drivers, some additional availability outside the main event hours may also be required, for example for transport between hotels and the venue.
