In collaboration with The Good Knight – the world’s first chess bar, both the Open tournaments and a wide range of evening social side events, Social Knights, will take place at the venue in central Oslo. The ambition is to create a vibrant meeting place for players, spectators and chess enthusiasts throughout the tournament period.
In 2026, Norway Chess Open will be played in a more focused format, featuring two separate standard-rated tournaments:
• Norway Chess Open 2026 – May Edition: 23–29 May
• Norway Chess Open 2026 – June Edition: 1–7 June
Each tournament consists of 7 rounds over 7 days, with a classical time control of 90 minutes + 30 seconds increment, and a maximum of 72 players per tournament. The tournaments are FIDE-rated standard events, open to players of all levels, with all participants competing in a single group and without norm opportunities. All rounds start at 10:00, and no double rounds are scheduled.
