After working with us during last year’s tournament, Tímea now joins the team full-time. With a background in the arts, communication, and event organisation, she will play an important role in keeping the tournament running smoothly behind the scenes.
We caught up with her for a quick chat about her role and what she’s most excited about:
Welcome (back!) to Norway Chess, Tímea! You worked with us during last year’s tournament – how does it feel to now be joining the team full-time?
It feels really great to be back, and even more special to be joining the team full-time. Working on the tournament last year gave me a great insight into both the event and the people behind it, so coming back now feels familiar in the best way, but also very exciting. I’m genuinely happy to be here.
For those who don’t know you yet – can you tell us a little about yourself and your background?
I’m originally from Transylvania, a Hungarian from Romania, and I started out as an actress before moving into communication, event organisation, and project coordination. I’ve worked with festivals and cultural events, and I enjoy combining creativity with structure, which is why Norway Chess feels like a great fit.
You’ve worked in theatre, festivals, and cultural events before moving into coordination and administration. What first got you interested in working behind the scenes with events?
Being on stage made me very aware of how much work happens behind the scenes. Through theatre and festivals, I was often involved in the organisational side as well, and I discovered that I really enjoyed coordinating people, schedules, and details to help everything come together smoothly.
Having already experienced Norway Chess from the inside last year, what stood out to you most about the team and the tournament?
The people, without a doubt. The team is highly professional but also very open and collaborative, and there’s a real shared passion for the tournament that you can feel throughout the event.
What are you most excited about learning or experiencing in your new role?
What excites me most is being part of a period where Norway Chess is taking a significant step forward. The launch of Total Chess is a major development for the organisation, and being involved at a time when something new and large-scale is being built feels both exciting and motivating.
If you could help deliver a tournament anywhere in the world for the Total Chess Tour, where would you love to go?
Kyoto, Rio de Janeiro or L.A. would be incredibly exciting.
Outside of work – what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
Outside of work, I enjoy fairly simple things. I love spending time with my family, playing video games, watching films and series, reading, and being in nature. I also enjoy cooking and staying active. For me, this means slowing down a bit and doing things I genuinely enjoy.
Welcome to the team, Tímea!
