The Norway Chess Open 2025 will return to Stavanger from May 26 to June 1, 2025, at IMI Forum in Stavanger, Norway, bringing together chess players from around the world for one of the year’s most anticipated tournaments. Next year’s event is set to be the biggest yet, with record-breaking participation and prize offerings.

Known for its strong competition and international appeal, the event has previously featured Indian stars Gukesh D, Praggnanandhaa R, and Vaishali Rameshbabu, along with top players like Atousa Pourkashiyan. Norway Chess Open has established itself as a key stage for both seasoned professionals and emerging talent.

This year’s tournament includes:

  • GM Group: Open to players rated 2000+, the 9-round Swiss format tournament offers a €13,000 prize fund and opportunities for title norms. Registration closes May 20, 2025.
  • ELO Group: Open to players of all ratings, this 9-round Swiss format competition provides a €2,000 prize fund. Registration closes May 25, 2025.

A blitz tournament is also scheduled for May 31, 2025, offering a dynamic challenge for fast-paced chess enthusiasts.

Participants in both the GM and ELO Group will receive complimentary access to the main Norway Chess and Norway Chess Women’s tournaments, allowing them to witness some of the world’s best players compete live.
