A game where everyone, regardless of background, can compete on equal terms. Unfortunately, that\u2019s not the case,\u201d says Dar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1057\" data-end=\"1249\">This year, for the second time, Norway Chess is hosting a women\u2019s tournament with a prize fund equal to that of the open tournament. It was called a gamechanger \u2013 not just for the chess world, but for gender equality as a whole,\u201d Dar says, adding:<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1459\" data-end=\"1591\">\u201cOne concern last year was that this would be a one-off. Thankfully, it hasn\u2019t turned out that way \u2013 and I\u2019m very glad to see that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1593\" data-end=\"1710\">Dar points out that only 2\u20133% of international chess grandmasters are women, reflecting a broader societal challenge.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1712\" data-end=\"1955\">\u201cSport is one of the areas where gender equality lags the most. The dropout rate among girls in youth sports is significant, and we have a responsibility to create better conditions for more girls and women to pursue their ambitions,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"1957\" data-end=\"2040\">\u201cTo do that, we need strong role models and arenas where they can thrive,\u201d he adds.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2042\" data-end=\"2136\">Dar emphasizes that the business community must play a more active role in advancing equality.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\" data-start=\"2138\" data-end=\"2470\">\u201cWe in the business sector can\u2019t sit back and wait for change to happen \u2013 we must be part of making it happen. That means supporting initiatives that promote female athletes and chess players.
