{"id":10962,"date":"2024-04-11T11:00:39","date_gmt":"2024-04-11T11:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/norwaychess.no\/?page_id=10962"},"modified":"2026-04-29T07:50:05","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T07:50:05","slug":"regulations-2026","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/norwaychess.no\/en\/regulations-2026\/","title":{"rendered":"Regulations 2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Regulations of the International Chess Tournament<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Norway Chess &amp; Norway Chess Women\u2019s Tournament<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Oslo, Norway, May 25 \u2013 June 5, 2026<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tournament Regulations<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">FIDE\u2019s Laws of Chess will apply.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Format<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">6 players will take part in the Tournament.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Tournament is a double-round event with Armageddon in case of a tie. The Tournament consists of 10 rounds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Berger tables will be used for the pairings. Drawing of lots will be done at the Technical Meeting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Default time is 15 minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Time Control<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Each player will have 120 minutes on the clock with an increment of 10 seconds starting from move 41.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The time control for the Armageddon game: white has 10 minutes and black has 7 minutes with an increment for both players of 1 second per move, starting from move 41.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Draw by Mutual Agreement<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Players are not allowed to agree to a draw until at least 30 moves have been made by each player. This rule does not apply to Armageddon games.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Armageddon<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If the classical game is drawn, an Armageddon game will be played. It shall start within 20 minutes of the conclusion of the classical game. The player with white pieces will continue with White in Armageddon. If the Armageddon game is drawn, black will win.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Points<br \/>\n<\/strong>Players will get the following points per round:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Win in the classical game: 3 points<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Loss in the classical game: 0 points<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Draw in the classical game &amp; win Armageddon: 1\u00bd points<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Draw in the classical game &amp; loss Armageddon: 1 point<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Tie-breaks<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>If two players<\/strong> share the first place, there will be a Play-off to decide the winner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">This Playoff consists of a two-game blitz match with the time control of 3 min. + 2 sec. increment per move.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If this match ends in a tie, a further match will be played.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If this match ends in a tie, there will be an Armageddon game where White has 10 minutes and Black, with draw odds, has 7 minutes both with an increment of 1 second per move, starting from move 41.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>If more than two players<\/strong> share first place, there will be a double round-robin tournament with the time control of 3 min. + 2 sec. increment per move.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In case of a tie between players in the double round-robin tournament, the classical games results will be used to resolve the tie according to the following:<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">1. Direct Encounter,<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">2. Sonneborn-Berger,<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">3. Koya System,<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">4. Extended Koya System (the number of points achieved against all participants<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">who have scored at least 55% of the maximum possible tournament score),<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">5. Drawing of lots.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The tie breaks will occur according to the relevant schedule.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Prize Money<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The total prize fund of the Tournament is 1 690 000 NOK. Distribution of Prize <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">money occurs as followed:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">#1 NOK 700 000<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">#2 NOK 350 000<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">#3 NOK 200 000<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">#4 NOK 170 000<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">#5 NOK 150 000<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">#6 NOK 120 000<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Prize money will be shared among the players with the same score. This does <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">not apply to the first prize. If players share the first place, there will be a Play-off <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">or double round-robin tournament to decide the winner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Player Duties<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The player is expected to be present at least 2 minutes before the start of the round as a courtesy to his opponent and the sponsor and to give the press the opportunity to take photos and possibility for a symbolic first move ceremony. If the participant is not present in the playing area at the start of the game, he\/she will be fined 500 Euros.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Fair Play<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Fair Play Specialists will be on hand to assist players securing the integrity of the tournament, ensuring that procedures are followed, and any questions or concerns are promptly addressed. Players are obligated to comply with the Fair Play protocol. The Fair Play Team is an ally to the players. Players are encouraged to rely on it for any fair-play-related matter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">The Fair Play Team will be adopting several &#8211; visible and invisible, on-site and remote fair play measures during the tournament. Fair Play measures are aimed at creating a safe environment for players. Including, but not limited to, pre-game checks, statistical analysis and post-game checks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A player must not have any mobile phones and\/or other electronic or communication devices on their person or carry them during play.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">A player will be immediately forfeited if, during the game or post-game check, any such device either:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022\u2060 \u2060makes any sound; or<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022\u2060 \u2060is found to be switched on; or<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u2022\u2060 \u2060is found to be on their person or being carried by them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">If such a device is found before the round the player will be asked to store them securely before entering the playing hall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Unannounced tests on players at the tournament venue will be conducted throughout the tournament by professionals. Please help the Fair Play Team ensure the test are as non-intrusive, effortless and smooth as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">*Organizers reserve the right to make changes in the regulations before the start of the tournament.
